Orana Park

On Friday the 5th of September room 1 went to Orana Park. When we came to school we went to assembly and then we got on the bus. When we got to Orana Park we had some morning tea and met our wildlife expert. Ours was Michael and Elizabeth. We went to the Gorillas first and they talked about how humans destroy Gorilla habitats for Iphone batteries. After the gorillas we went to the cheetahs. They were amazing! It looked like a TV playing a savanna with a cheetah in the middle looking in to the horizon. Then we went to the rhinos. They looked so big. The instructor said that they whegied about 2,500 kg. We got to hold a rhino horn and it felt really rough. After the rhinos we went to see the giraffes. When we got there we got a branch with leaves on it and feed the giraffe. One licked me. Then we had lunch. While we were having lunch we saw a boulder copper butterfly habitat. After lunch we went to see the spider monkeys and they told us about a time when they monkeys got lose and climbed to the top of very high trees and the zookeepers had to bribe them to get them down. Then we went to see one of our native birds the kiwi. The kiwi were in such a dark room and we saw them both, It was so cool. On the way to see the kea we saw some bearded lizards which were so cool. Then we went to see the kea. They had just put some new logs in and the kea were tearing them to shreds looking for grubs. After the kea we went to see the king of the jungle the lion! they were so big. They were like 1.8 meters tall! After the lions we had ended our trip but we went to see the otters before we left. Have you ever been to Orana park.

Maddie Davidson

Today Maddie Davidson came to our school and she talked about the Olympics. The sport she did was Trampolining. She said that when you fail you can set a goal for the next time. When you become a Olympian you get to live in a special village only for Olympians. You can shop, go to the dentist, doctor, get groceries and a bunch of other things. She also inspired me for a Goal. Have you had a Olympian come to your school before?

Literacy Protests

Today we made protest signs about social justice for the kids in Gaza and Israel because of suffering and all the bombs and horrible things happening. Plus all the people in the world who get treated wrong because of there skin color. Have you made a protest sign before?

Alliteration

This week room 1 have been learning about Alliteration in Writing. It is when you use the same sound multiple times in the sentence. It is great for writing because it makes it interesting and cool to read in my opinion. My example is: Alex adores Alliteration and animals, especially alligators and armadillos. Have you done Alliteration before? If you have comment your alliteration.

Extended discussion

This week room 1 did some extended discussion groups. We talked about should the people on the sidelines be able to shout instructions to there players. Our group thought that if players hear shouting from the sidelines and they are bad things that the kids can feel upset and quit the sport, and the referees people giving up there time on mornings to ref the games and then get yelled at they can stop reffing and that would be really bad for sport. What do you think we should do about this?
